Ranks of Jelson Homes’ ‘25 Year Club’ continue to grow…

Release Date: 16 February 2010

Ranks of Jelson Homes’ ‘25 Year Club’ continue to grow…Friday, 27th November saw Leicester-based housebuilder Jelson Homes celebrate the 36th reunion dinner of its ’25 Year Club’ at Beedles Lake Golf Club in East Goscote. Formed in 1973, membership of the club is exclusive to those who have worked at the company for at least 25 years and its ever-growing membership, now totalling 201, is testament to the company’s traditional values and the loyalty of its workforce.

This year’s celebration was particularly poignant as it fell within Jelson’s 120th year of building homes in the East Midlands. The 2009 intake saw three new members welcomed to the club; Fred Beresford, an electrician with sister company East Goscote Electricians; Terry McGreal, a director of Jelson Ltd; and Glyn Thomas, office manager for sister company Meynell Plant Hire, each of whom was presented with a gold watch by chairman Mr R A Jelley to commemorate their first meeting.

They join the exclusive ranks of Jelson employees, both present and retired, who have enjoyed long and fruitful careers with the company including former director John Scott, who clocked up 53 years service before retiring in 2002, and site manager Dave Wright who, with 45 years continual Jelson employment to date – and still counting, is the longest standing member still working.

Anne de Vere Hunt, HR Officer at Jelson Homes explains:

“It’s fantastic to welcome new members to the 25 Year Club and we’re proud of the fact that so many of our colleagues stay on and enjoy long and fruitful careers at the company. They say there’s no such thing as a ‘job for life’ anymore, but at Jelson there still is – if you have the right commitment and are willing to become a part of the community that is our company, then there’s every chance that you could work for us from apprenticeship through to retirement, progressing your career on the way.

”It was also lovely to present one of the younger members of the Jelson team with a special award at the event – Sam Fairgrieve, a 21 year old bricklayer who has worked with us through his apprenticeship, was recognised for his achievements at the WorldSkills tournament in Calgary, Canada in September where he came 5th overall in the bricklaying category. Who knows - maybe Sam will eventually join the 25 Year Club himself!”
